South African Navy Military Skills Development System (MSDS) Intake For 2026. The South African Armed Forces offers young South African citizens the opportunity to serve in uniform on a two-year contract. Recruits receive additional military and employment skills during their first year of service. During the second year of service, you will be deployed wherever you are needed and have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and put your skills to work.

Requirements

• South African citizen (no nationality).
• 18 – 22 years (Grade 12).
• 18 – 26 (3 years university degree or N6) at the time of application.
• Completion of Grade 12 graduation.
• Opening Point of Painting (APS) 17 and above, excluding Life Orientation (LO).
• No criminal charges or fines.
• Complete with medical agility requirements for the number.
• No visible tattoos (piercings, neck, eyelids)

Other requirements:

Applicants will be subjected to drug testing, Psychometric, and medical evaluation, verification of Criminal record, prescreening, and verification of Qualifications.

The following are Fields of Interest:

COMBAT:

• Combat applicants between 18 – 22 of age.
• Must have completed Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Sciences with at least Level 4 for both Subjects (No Mathematical Literacy), excluding LO. ENGINEERING and/or TECHNICAL.
• Engineering and Technical applicants aged between 18 – 22 of age.
• Must have completed Gr 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science with at least Level 4 for both subjects, excluding LO. Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering with N6, and Trade Test.

SUPPORT:

• Support applicants aged between 18 – 22.
• Must have completed Gr 12.
